Post-graffiti art: Interweaving of painting and street/graffiti art in contemporary Czech art
DRAŽAN, Richard
The thesis deals with a contemporary artistic phenomenon of post-graffiti. It maps its development and main artists, while it attempts to encompass what can be considered a post-graffiti work and thus define its boundaries. Contemporary artists, mainly painters who work at least partially in this style are described. Those artists come not only from Czechia but also from abroad. The work thus primarely attempts to provide a detailed description and formal analysis of this phenomenon, while secondarily it aims to map the contemporary Czech post-graffiti scene. Based on research in the body of work, two main categories of artists' approach to the creation of post-graffiti paintings are outlined. Sub-genres of this phenomenon are also described. This thesis also explores the articulation of motivation that plays a significant role in an individual's transition to studio painting from illegal graffiti painting in the urban exterior. One of the chapters focuses on an aesthetic comparison of abstract expressionism and post-graffiti. A short section also includes a description and development of the Czech graffiti scene. The second part of the thesis is devoted mainly on interpretation of the works of Czech artists that can be categorised as post-graffiti in their contemporary work or in part of their artistic career. This section also includes characteristics comparison of Czech and foreign approaches to the creation of post-graffiti artworks. Furthermore, the theoretical argumentation of high and low art is applied to the relationship between graffiti and post-graffiti. This issue of art hierarchization is reviewed throughout the whole body of this academic work.

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the photographic phenomenon of Urban Exploration, also known as "UrbEx". The bachelor's thesis deals with the question of why places remain abandoned and compares the Czech and general foreign approach to urbex. The aim is to find out whether "city explorers" are able to help abandoned buildings with their photographs. First, terms closely related to urban research such as industry, taphophilia, graffiti and psychogeography are defined. History from Romanticism to the present is also presented. Briefly mentioned are figures which are connected to exploring of abandoned places, such as André Breton, Guy Debord, Jeff Chapman and groups that helped shape the phenomenon, i.e. the San Francisco Suicide Club, Action Squad, Cave Clan and Diggers of the Underground Planet. Pripjať and so called Chtâteau Congo were chosen from the world demonstration of urbex. However, most attention is paid to buildings in the Czech Republic, from where were chosen pewter shaft Rolava and St. George in Luková, which is an ideal example of how urbex can in some way help to save abandoned buildings. Keywords Urbex, exploration, abandoned places, photography

Rufer, Jan ; Géla, František (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
The main objective of this work is to present the phenomenon of graffiti via a series of photographs, to introduce the subculture which stems from graffiti making and to actualize it in the context of the contemporary media environment in the Czech Republic. The content of the practical part was created in collaboration with the Czech CSR crew during several different events. In the theoretical passage, I briefly introduce the history, development and transformations of this subculture in the Czech Republic. The thesis consists of two segments - theoretical and practical. The practical one is realised in the form of a photobook titled Art living by night. It is the pillar of this bachelor thesis. The photographs were taken by a digital and analogue camera during 2021 to early 2022. They are included to document the process of graffiti making itself through the eyes of a non- participating un-biased observer during various occasions and in different settings. Ido not focus on the process of photography itself as much as the content of the images itself. In the theoretical part I lean into the topic of how graffiti, and the subculture associated with it, is perceived by selected domestic media outlets and what image of this artistic discipline show the public. This segment is primarily defined by the...
